As Your Observer reported, the storefront on Lakewood Main Street had housed McGrath's and McAllister's before Delany's Public House. By the time Tory Delany gave a reporter a tour in July, the space had been gutted and rebuilt from the studs. Delany's Public House, an Irish pub, opened to the public on July 23.
This is restaurant number eight for Delany, her husband Darren Shore, and their business partner Kevin O'Hanlon, and Delany already runs Allswell Craft Cocktails & Kitchen a few blocks away in Waterside Place. When a reporter asked about opening in a space previously occupied by two restaurants, her answer was short: they have 30 years of hospitality behind them and they know what needs to be done.
That confidence shows up in details most restaurant openings skip. The bar was built by two Lakewood Ranch woodworkers who were born in Ireland. Much of the furniture came from a woodworking shop in Derry. The owners convinced ten former employees from their three New York City restaurants, Mezcali, Malt House, and The Spot, to relocate to Florida just to help launch this one. The sausages, bacon, breads, and cheeses on the menu are sourced from Ireland, not approximated from a distributor catalog. As Delany told Your Observer after the renovation wrapped:
"It still takes my breath away. I am incredibly proud."
If you live near Main Street, that sentence matters more than it sounds like it should: Delany is proud of the work behind her group's eighth restaurant, now a new addition to Main Street.
Another New Main Street Restaurant
Delany's isn't the only new restaurant on Main Street this year. A few doors down, the space that used to be Hana Sushi Lounge is becoming Kuro Sushi, and the pattern is nearly identical. The owner, Daniel Dokko, isn't a first-time restaurateur either. He runs JPAN Sushi & Grill at both Shops at Siesta Row and University Town Center, plus Korê Steakhouse over in Waterside Place, all under his Umami Hospitality Group. Kuro's kitchen team pulls from three different backgrounds, chef Brian Briones is Filipino, partner Anderyas Putranto is Indonesian, and Dokko himself is Korean, which is part of why the menu leans into shareable small plates and skewers rather than a single national cuisine.
Kuro Sushi opens to the public on November 1, after a reservation-only soft launch running through October 25 and a fundraiser dinner for Forty Carrots Family Center on October 28. That's a few months off, but the pattern is worth noticing now. Two of Main Street's most visible vacancies this year are being filled by operators with existing restaurants elsewhere: Delany and her partners, and Dokko.
What's Actually Happening This Month
None of that means Main Street slowed down waiting for the new openings. A Taste of the Ranch ran from July 18 through August 1, with participating restaurants offering prix-fixe menus, wine pairings, and specialty cocktails, a reminder that the existing lineup was already busy before Delany's or Kuro joined it.
For the rest of August and a look ahead to September, here are the recurring options and the next Music on Main date:
- Music on Main: September's show, if you're planning ahead, features Jump Start Band and benefits Save Our Seabirds.
- Remy's on Main runs live music Fridays and Saturdays from 6 to 9 PM.
- Ed's Tavern has live music Friday and Saturday nights, 8 PM until close.
- Allswell Craft Cocktails & Kitchen turns into a DJ set Fridays and Saturdays starting at 9 PM.
- Peculiar Pub hosts local artists on Saturday nights from 8 to 11 PM.
If your week starts to feel like it revolves around Main Street's patio schedule, you're not imagining it. That's more or less the point of the place.
The Sunday Constant
Underneath all of that is the one fixture that doesn't change with the seasons or the restaurant rotation: the Lakewood Ranch Farmers' Market at Waterside Place, every Sunday, year-round. Organizers bill it as the top farmers' market in the country, which is the kind of claim you take with a grain of salt, but the "100+ local vendors" they promise is at least specific enough to check for yourself if you show up. It's the quiet bookend to a week that otherwise runs on live music and new restaurant openings.
New Restaurants on Main Street
It would be easy to read all of this as just another list of things opening on Main Street. But look at what's actually happening at the two most visible vacancies this year. Neither one went to somebody trying restaurant ownership for the first time. Both are led by operators who already run concepts elsewhere in Lakewood Ranch or nearby.
A few years ago, Main Street's restaurant scene was still in its build-out phase. Evan Percoco and Zach Zeller took over Peculiar Pub and built Twisted Pit and Percoco's Pizza & Pasta. Delany and her partners already own Allswell down the block, and Dokko runs two other restaurants a short drive away.
If you've lived here long enough to remember the awning changes on that stretch of Main Street, that's the detail worth holding onto: experienced operators are opening new restaurants here.
